Transcriptomics
Partners: Novo Nordisk and Oxford Gene Technology
Genome-wide expression profiling, or transcriptomics is an ‘omic’ tool used to obtain an understanding of the genes that are being actively expressed in a biological sample at any given time. This technique has proved powerful for biomarker discovery as patterns of gene expression can be perturbed in relation to disease or risk of disease. Typically microarray technology is used in order to simultaneously analyse the expression profiles of 1000’s of genes (or mRNAs); in MolPAGE WP3 are applying the well established Affymetrix microarray technology to the analysis of human adipose and blood samples collected by WP1 and samples from animal models of metabolic disease. MicroRNA update
MolPAGE partner, Oxford Gene Technology is developing a microarray to measure expression levels of pre, pri and mature mammalian miRNAs in WP1 biomarker discovery samples. [More]
